Major tourist attractions travellers in lunar New Year

The central province of Khanh Hoa welcomed 686,000 visitors during the nine-day holiday, earning revenue of VND2.2 billion (US$105,600) according to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Reports also indicate that hotels in Nha Trang were overloaded due to a rising number of travellers who flocked to the resort city to enjoy their week-long holiday.

Deputy Director of the Khanh Hoa’s tourism department said the main attractions this year included craft villages, the Institute of Oceanography, temples and new resort areas, in addition to beaches and islands.

The Po Nagar towers, a prominent architectural complex of the Cham people, also welcomed 53,000 visitors during the first eight days of the Lunar New Year.

In the ancient capital of Hue, royal monuments and tombs were destinations for nearly 35,000 foreign visitors during the Tet holiday, up 35% from the same period last year.

On the third day of the Lunar New Year, the cruise ship Celebrity Millennium docked at the Chan May port, bringing 21,000 tourists and 1,000 crew members to major scenic sites in the former capital.

According to the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the province welcomed over 165,000 visitors in January, nearly 40% of which were foreign visitors. Revenue from tourism in January reached over VND170.3 billion (US$8.17 million).
